Our company, in cooperation with the Dutch seed production house Rijk Zwaan, held on 23 and 24 June a full-day event dedicated to the cultivation of watermelon and melon.
During the first day of the series of events, producers, members of the supply chain, friends and partners from all over Cyprus were hosted in the model demonstration field installed by our company in the village of Astromeritis and had the opportunity to get to know, evaluate and taste the new varieties of watermelon and melon of Rijk Zwaan. Over 17 varieties of Watermelon and 15 varieties of melon were planted in order to evaluate them in real climatic conditions and cultivated according to the practices followed by the Cypriot producer. Our guests, forming small groups, were guided by our agronomists and the agronomists of Rijk Zwaan, while at the same time a free discussion was developed on everything concerning the cultivation and marketing of watermelons and melons both in Cyprus and abroad.
The second day could not take place anywhere else but in the free province of Famagusta which holds the lead in early production of watermelons and melons. A special exhibition area was set up in the external premises of our store in Liopetri, where fruits from all the varieties planted in the Astromeritis field were presented. In addition to the well-known varieties of watermelon MorganRZ and BretonaRZ, our producers, friends and partners had the opportunity to get to know the new varieties and to literally get a first taste of the new variety LusitanaRZ which stood out for its earliness, its increased production and its durability in the field. At the same time, inside the store, our guests had the opportunity to discuss with our company’s staff, the experienced agronomists of Rijk Zwaan and Plastics of Crete the challenges and requirements of modern agriculture, the products and services offered by Technochemicals and to enjoy the meal we offered them.
